Yup ! I mean it!! (scholarship fundraising) If you would like to donate those bottles/cans to a good cause, you can call for pickup or drop them off, even just the empties in your car. I used to save them for the HS kids but they only come once a year now. All proceeds to go toward scholarships for Equine Assisted Activities in Aroostook.

UPcoming Drop sites: Tractor Supply Company stores in Houlton and Presque Isle, and we are also looking for sites in other towns. Even if you are just cleaning out of your car, every nickel counts! Look for bins in front of the stores starting in February and flyers in your bags at the check outs. Thank you Keith in PI and Aaron in Houlton.

*The Project Heat telethon (Channel 6) raised over $233,000 for heat assistance to be distributed statewide. Those needing heating assistance should call 211 to be directed to the appropriate local resource. I haven't been able to find the exact criteria yet but I've heard those who may not be eligible for limited federal, state or local fuel assistance programs. (including those people who qualified for LIHEAP last year when income guidelines were higher) plus those with heating emergencies should call.
Adaptive Skiing: It's that time of year again: The air is crisp, the sky is blue, and the snowy slopes of Sugarloaf eagerly beckon to ski enthusiasts of all abilities. This year, Maine Adapted Sports & Recreation (formerly Maine Handicapped Skiing) will host 5 (FIVE!) free trips to Sugarloaf from Bangor. This is an incredible and rare opportunity for new and experienced skiers who would like to spend a day on the beautiful slopes of Sugarloaf Mountain. Come join your friends
at MASR and Alpha One for five great, free days of fun! The bus meets at the Airport Mall parking lot in Bangor and leaves at 6:30am. Be there early to secure your spot! Youth Service America Invites Young Change-Makers to Apply for Disney Friends for Change Grants
Grants of $1,000 are available for volunteer projects led by children and youth (ages 5 to 18) in the United States....

A program of Youth Service America and Disney, the Disney Friends for Change Grants program offers young change-makers in the United States funding to help make a lasting, positive change in their communities and the world.
The program seeks to support volunteer projects serving a wide range of needs that highlight the creativity and commitment of young people working to meet the needs of others and that demonstrate how "even small actions can add up to big changes."
Youth between the ages of 5 and 18 in all fifty states and the District of Columbia are eligible to lead a project and apply for a $1,000 grant to fund it. (Applicants younger than 13 years of age must have an older person submit the application on their behalf.)

Win Cash Helping Others Manes and Tails Scholarship Fund Fan Club ‘Fun Raiser’
Manes and Tails is an all-volunteer 501c3 non-profit which supports Equine Assisted Programs for Children and Families with Special Needs throughout Aroostook County Maine. The Scholarship Fund helps Participants to engage in programs of their choice and also assists in Facilitator Training.
How to Play/Help:
*Join the Scholarship Fund Club by contributing an annual membership fee of $20.00 You can start at any time of the year and be eligible to win for 12 months.
*On the first of the month starting June 1, 2011, a drawing will be held and prizes awarded:
$100.00 first prize : then $50.00 second prize will be added when we have 300 members. If the Scholarship Club membership continues to grow, so will the prizes.
This is a monthly drawing, you are eligible for one prize a year and we hope you will renew year after year! You may have multiple memberships also.
